I've been having issues with my driver's window for a few weeks now. First off it wouldn't close on a single touch - reset procedure fixed that - for a couple of days. Same thing again 2 days later - same fix all fine but getting worried.
Another couple of days window would not open, nor did it raise or drop for door opening and closing - I couldn't move it with the remote either - sugar!! Driving without opening window for two days when...
I absent mindedly put my finger on the down switch and it opened perfectly - all the way down.
Problem was it wouldn't go back up... big bother now - I park the car on my drive and storms were imminent.
Door card off and I try to look as if I know what I'm doing while I unplug and replug every connector in there and spray with Servisol. Also spray Silicon lubricant on all moving parts (well the parts that should have been moving). No effect!!! I also removed and replaced all the relevant fuses and looked for (didn't find) the relevant relay - but I guessed if the passenger window was still OK it wouldn't be that anyway. I also removed and split open the window ECU in the door and didn't see any blown capacitors or anything.
Bit of luck though, randomly while I was replacing the black plug in the ECU, the window started moving. I could jiggle the plug a little (while it was partly in) and make the window go up or down, the best I could do though was raise it to about an inch from the top. I sealed the remaining gap with gaffer tape until I could get hold of a replacement regulator (my guess was that a new one must be the answer).
I got and fitted the new (aftermarket part) window regulator and motor unit on Thursday. All was working BUT:
- the window opens fine - not on one touch though.
- the window only closes in stages - it needs 3 maybe 4 repeat presses to get it to the top.
- when opening, the door the window drops down by about an inch or more (not the couple of millimeters it should be).
- when closing the door the window raises back up 2 or 3 millimeters less than it dropped when it opened. If I don't close the window fully each time I've opened the door the gap keeps on growing.
None of these issues have been fixed by resetting the windows nor by disconnecting the battery overnight.
My belief is that I will need to clear the faults recorded in the ECU before I can reset the ECU. This will only be possible with the relevant software and cable. I have Multiecuscan (free) and a KKL cable but these won't do for this task (I never was very lucky) I need an ELM 327 (modified for Alfa) and the licenced version of Multiecuscan to contact the Front Door Module.
I've ordered a cable (hoping it will arrive on Tuesday) and I've installed DnEcuDiag - hoping that will access and clear the codes (if anyone knows whether it will and how to do it help would be appreciated).
So back to the O.P. - I think the way to fix your issues with the window will be to clear the fault codes (unless of course your regulator or the ECU is on its way out too in which case any respite will only be temporary)
