156 JTS engine noise
This is my first post, so please be gentle with me!
I have an '06 156 JTS Selespeed which has developed a noise in the engine recently. I'm finding it difficult to pin down the origin of the knock as it only occurs under acceleration, between about 1800 - 3200 rpm. At idle it sounds normal and when cruising there is no knock. The noise doesn't vary significantly between a hot or cold engine. The car has traveled around 83kms and I have owned it from new. It is regularly serviced with Fuchs 10-60 synthetic oil and doesn't burn any between changes (10,000 km intervals). The timing belt, balance belt, idlers, tensioners and water pump were changed at 79kms. In desperation I changed the big end shells last weekend, although I never seriously expected this to be the source, but I wanted to eliminate the possibility. It has developed very slowly, and pre-dates the timing belt change which I thought may have been the cause (loose belt touching the plastic cover?). I have read a lot about the inlet cam variator, however there is no noise at idle, so presumably this rules the variator out? I'm out of ideas, so any assistance from the wise heads on this forum would be gratefully received.
