156 2.0 jts P0340 cam sensor

My Alfa is struggling to start when warm or cold, sometimes it will start after a bit of cranking other times will not. when its running it seems to run fine but does have the engine light on and is reporting error code P0340 this seems to point to cam sensor. I know on the TS you have to remove the cambelt to replace the sensor, is this the case with JTS also. Is there anything ells I should try first.

Well its either the sensor itself or the sensor is reporting a mismatch between what its reading and what the crank shaft sensor is reading which points to a timing problem. Maybe pop some cam locks on and see if the valve timing is right first?
