Help, your opinion please

Hello from France,

On my alfa 147, I have the red airbag light on the dashboard and the MES software indicate only one default code "01-internal error" . Many people say that the airbag ECU is dead and I need to replace it. I contacted a company in France that specializes in the sale of new and second-hand parts ALFA, FIAT, LANCIA. €50 in second-hand is very interesting, I contacted the company which attests that the ECU works correctly and doesn’t come from to a rugged car, so no data crash. It was my fear! They explained to me that when they take an airbag ECU on a car, they checked there is no light airbag lit on the dashboard. By visiting a site that repairs the airbag ECU, it is indicated that replacement by one second-hand or new airbag doesn’t solve the issue even with erasure the default, it needs to reparameterize the ECU. Is there someone which has already replaced an airbag ECU by one second-hand ?

Any comment is welcome!

I think it is likely that because the 147 uses a can-bus electrical system, any electronic component that is replaced needs to be "authorised" to use the system - its done via the diagnostic system and referred to as "proxy alignment". This is probably what would need to be done with a replacement airbag ECU.

On the older 156 and earlier models replaceemnt was a simple "plug and play". Progress is wonderful, sometimes.....

Many thanks rgwm for your comments,

I need to download the paid version of Multiecuscan to do the “ proxy alignment ”, the old owner has replaced the radio car and odometer flashes, after restarting it will stop flashing.

I would like to know if anyone has had the same issue and was able to resolve the light air bag lit with the default “01-internal error” by replacing the ECU by a second-hand, and if “proxy alignment” is necessary after replacement of ECU.

Thanks for your advice.
