Top end clatter, not the variator...
Hi all, I changed the cambelt, tensioners etc and variator on my car a while back , and there was a very slight ticking noise from the top of the engine when I had fitted the new parts. This noise gradually dissappeared. However its now 1000 miles since the job was done and my engine has developed another top end rattle between about 2000-4000 revs and appears to be coming from around number 3 cylinder area. The noise it quite loud and can be heard outside and inside the car, and seems to be worse when hot.
If I put my hand on the cam cover when the engine is revved I can actually feel the top of the engine vibrate slightly when the noise occurs.
I am pretty certain this is not a bottom end issue, as the noise is totally different to when the big ends failed on my last QV, and is not so far down the engine..
Let me know your thoughts please... Whatever happens the cam cover is coming off at the weekend so I can look inside.
And the car still drives perfectly by the way, the noise appeared just after a bit of spirited driving..
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
