I've said it plenty of times before - if you really think the MAF is dead then cleaning it is not a miracle cure. If it is causing you issues, unplug it and go for a run and see how you do.
With a MAF unplugged idle will be a real *****, possibly stalling too but once you're in motion it should run just fine. If you find yourself gaining power then the MAF is a suspect.
As a rule of thumb with turbo derv cars lack of power below 2.5k is an EGR issue, lack of power about 2.5k is a MAF issue, so you've got to really drive it to work out whats happening.
MAFs tend to fail lean, i.e. car brings in more air than is being measured so making the mixture run lean.
