Re: Slight 'clunk' at TDC???

removing the sump:
-get the car up in the air, high as you can, use axle stands!
-separate the exhaust downpipe from the manifold.
-remove the 2 13mm bolts which hold the sump to the gearbox.
-remove 15mm bolt which goes from rear engine mount into the back of the sump.
-remove 2 13mm bolts from exhaust support bracket.
-remove 19mm nut which holds exhaust support bracket and take of bracket.
-remove drivers side wheel.
-looking in from the wheel arch you will see the inner cv joint, at approx 4 o'clock behind the joint there is a 13mm bolt, remove this, getting to the nut on the other end of this is a bit of a trial.
-drain the oil.
-you're now ready to start on the sump, you will need 7 & 8mm ribe bits which are 150mm long.
-remove sump bolts, 5 8mm's front and rear, 2 7mm's either end, 2 of which are well hidden between the sump and flywheel, you may need to modify the 7mm ribe bit with a grinder to get it into these 2.
-once these are out the sump will likely still be stuck fast as there is no gasket, only sticky black goo, use a stanley knife or similar to break the seal.
-the sump will drop but not very far, you need to loosen the front bolt of the oil pump pick up and remove the rearmost one, swing it round a bit and the sump will then drop.
-examine the big ends, there should be a fair amount of lateral movement as the rod float is on the crank end but is should be pretty obvious if one of them is mashed, check no2 1st
