As a few may know I am once again rebuilding my car's TS engine since it once again blew a bottom end bearing.
To keep it simple I am going to do a like for like swap.
Some of the issues with Alfa's (Although this site is great) is the lack of information and write ups compared with other brands. Mainly down to the fact there are not so many of us Alfa owners.
In any case I did it before without guides and a few handy hints from breakers / autolusso and various members.
So hopefully I will get round to a guide this time. Mainly because I am not in a rush to do it all in a weekend.
So first things first I need a new engine.
In order to get a new engine I needed a car that I could chuck in a full engine.
So I got one of these...
BMW 318i (8v 120hp)
- Booo i hear you all cry. Well 3 months MOT and 4 months tax for less than reconditioned engine says its ok. Engine is ok bar an oil leak and everything else works. So its given me enough time to find a decent engine and put it in. (Plus get an Engine crane into the back of it)
I have to admit though. The engine is smoother than Alfa's four pots. But then again is a bland power delivery and only 118hp out of a 1.9 unit... Shocking. My 1.6 Alfa would pee all over it. Still its a good load lugger and far more comfy on a motorway.
Also as its petrol I managed to just siphon out a full tank of petrol in my alfa (I was heading to London and just filled up when I destroyed the engine).
So if anyone has a good 1.6 engine please let me know.
(I'm already missing it and its only been 3 days).
