there was a thread on here from someone who had the JTS 2.0 remapped and his opinion was that although there is minimal extra HP to be had the drivability was much improved, throttle response and torque, especially in the low end...
having just come from driving a 140hp Z3 which I still own, I can say that my 2.0 JTS feels like more HP than my Z,
the Z had had a CAI fitted and designed by myself and I had advanced the cam timing after head rebuild and has been confirmed at 141 BHP on a dyno that I trust,a truly fun car to drive.
I agree with the OP there is more to be had out of the JTS with a re-map, I have spoken to Gus at alfatune and he has stated that the HP gain would be " a few" but throttle response would be much improved..but what are you looking for? drivability or numbers?...we don't need the top end stuff really.
the JTS seems to get a bad rap on her TBH but lets look at the alternatives available on the GT...
The diesel 1.9 JTDM, sorry but I couldn't live with a diesel engine in an alfa, no offence intended to those that have them I hear they are great and nice and torquey, also turbo and they respond well to a remap.
I get it but not my cuppa.
the 3.2, lovely and the pick of the bunch but road tax and fuel make them pricey that said I will upgrade to one at some point and just swallow the extra expense for while.
the 1.8 ts, a lovely engine but I drove a Blackline TS and thought that it was very rev happy...0-60 was up to 3rd if I remember my test drive correctly.
the JTS 0-60 run is in 1st and 2nd so my feeling is the rev happiness would kill the fuel economy on the TS and it did not feel as torquey as the JTS.
I think a look at the induction and exhaust as well as a remap would give a really nice middle ground between economy and performance on the JTS for around £800 all in.
if money is no object though it has to be the V6!
my tuppence for what its worth.
worth considering if the reliability of the JTS would be affected by a remap? its rare to get a performance gain without something happening elsewhere.
laws of physics every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
I will be doing the alfatune re-map at some point and will post my findings as and when I do.
