Engine and Gearbox Removal
Okay I've a couple of cars that need the engine and or gearbox out for various reasons (one 147, 2 x 156) and it's about time I got my arse in gear to start sort it. In the past I removed the bonnet, and used an engine crane to lift the whole lot out the top. However some idiot had the bright idea of buying a 4 post lift (hey ebay, bottle of whiskey, late friday night, it was a good idea..........) Anyway I don't really have space to use the engine crane anymore, and hey I've got a 4 post lift, so it would make sense to do the job on the lift.
I'm not sure the engine, and gearbox, could be dropped between the ramps, although this is the obvious way to do it, so I'm wonder how a garage with a 4 post lift would remove the engine.
My options I reckon are, try and drop the engine\gearbox between the ramps (may not fit)
Overhead gantry - May have trouble sneaking that one past the missus, she wasn't amused about the 4 post lift
Big ass Engine Crane, so I can lift to say 2.5m and lower the car away from the engine.
I can't attach anything to the roof\structure of the building, as it's an asbestos roof.
Any thoughts on how this should be done??
