I found that my airbox had 2 missing screws and the captive nuts too. I bonded a new pair of captive nuts into the lower air filter housing using Isopon fibreglass. Then used appropriate nut and big washer to secure the filter together. It doesn't look pretty but it does the job and cost about five or six pounds to do. It would appear that previous garages split the air filter housing on seal line, and repeatedly used this as access point, then sealed it up with silicone and zip ties!
It works now and can be opened normally
