upper aux belt pulley
I'm on my first Alfa, had her 18 months and so far the bills have'nt crippled me yet. I love her to bits and will forgive her anything (so far) but shes now developed a squeaky pulley that's driving me mad.
its the upper pulley on the aux belt, I've got a replacement and went to change it but the old one wont unbolt far enough, do Italians have very thin spanners? It comes out opposite a bulkhead and theres just not enough room to get the old one out. Also should I be concerned about the aux belt self tensioner kicking in when (if) I manage to get it off?
The pulley's bolt also seems to go into where the cambelt is, I'm not too keen on poking around there too much as it gets expensive, or am i just worrying too much?
A mechanic friend had a look and he said he'd have to drop the engine, but on closer inspection he said that means disconnecting the aircon etc which makes it it hell of a job to replace just a pulley.
has anyone else had to do this before? is there an easier way? my friend (BMW driver, the man has no soul!) suggested drilling through the bulkhead to get to it might be easier and then welding it back up, I can see the logic but surely there's an easier way?
at the moment I'm resorting to a quick spray of silicon lubricant (I know, very bad) and/or turning the stereo up, not ideal!
Hope you can help
