He mentioned both a modified intake snorkel, and the MAF/Airbox adapter....

Although having re-read that advert, the snorkel being offered is the OEM part for the 16V engines... I originally thought it was a slightly adjusted part!

GT.Clover 170 Q2

Good day in the bat cave.
After taking my time and not blowing my face up removing the airbag, it was just a case of a bit of patience carefully removing the necessary wiring. To satisfy my ocd I thoroughly cleaned the new wheel with leather products, and the stitching separately with interior cleaner using a cleaner bud stick. Amazing how much dirt came off it. And it looks brand new new after i reconditioned the surface.

My thoughts. The red stitched perforated pattern wheel which came out of a late red clover 170 really does transform the interior. Bloody lovely. Really makes my old black stitch non perforated wheel look a bit bland.

Not that it will be bland for much longer, i will send it off tomorrow, with my gearknob top to be professionally redone in quality alcantara. I have specified a larger girth for the rim, and a red top marker. I was considering going with red and clover green stitch. But not sure the green stitch with the red would be overkill.

So much better isn't it? Will your OCD have to stretch to the red stitched seats?

Really love the red stitched seats in my Blackline!

Also really love the red leather interior door panels... Think the red leather seats are a bit OTT, but would certainly consider replacing the door panels with red leather trimmed ones if I ever saw a set of cards going cheap!

Well the master plan is a set of Mito SBK sabelt seats with red stitch and carbon backs. But i think it will be a while before a set becomes available..I am a patient man though. And i know Ned will let me know if a set comes in..cough cough, hint hint, wink wink..

One day Alfa Romeo are going to call you and ask to stick that GT in a museum as a subject of unique automotive genius.

The next day a therapist is going to call and ask if you will stand on a plinth in the museum, next to the GT, to be the OCD exhibit A of an Alfa obsessed mad-man.

(But not before people come and section me for shouting obscenities in broad daylight at an air-box for refusing to stay still while I angle grind it...)

Your not wrong there mate i know the feeling. When they finally come and fetch me and take me away in a straight jacket into my white padded cell, i hope my GT goes into a museum. Any museum will do, as long as its clean..and not damp...or dusty....lol.

Although my affliction does allow me to go to crazy depths of detail in my cars development. I don't think i will ever stop developing my car, its my favorite pass time, while not travelling to every corner of the globe with my job.

So got an email back from a company i contacted a little while ago. I would really like to tint my rear taillights a deeper red than they already are. I think it would really add to the look of the rear. You have to be careful how dark red you go as mot dictates you have to still be allowed to to see the orange indicator glow.

So a company in Scotland can do this for me. By professionally spraying the lens. I know you can use film these days but i feel this looks shabby in time. So time to locate some some second hand rear tail lights to send away.

Will post up picks when they are done.

Hi Damien

Jimbo had his headlights done and the company that supplied the parts does all sorts of colours, I am going to get orange ones for my GTA when I finally get it back

Thanks Ned

The only problem i have with the coloured film in the link, is that it deteriorates in time. Hence why i was considering the slightly more complex professional lens spray option.

Yes we do. It was actually a billet piece Joel at JTD performance made, it fitted at the mouth of the actual airbox intake for better airflow. I do not think it is actually listed for sale.

That's the one Joel...

I would love one of those airbox intakes.

Joel i saw the video of your new tubular manifold...Very impressive. Your car sounds fantastic. Have you gained any power up the top end of the rev range?

GT.Clover 170 Q2

So just a little update to my thread.

I got involved in a discussion on another part of the forum, on someone who was interested in upgrading his turbo on his GT cloverleaf.. And on replying with what spec and tune i was running with my GT, i was bombarded with a few lets say "interesting" comments i felt fairly i needed to investigate.

I always thought i had an off the shelf stage one MD556 hybrid, made by Turbo dynamics.
I sent the company an email asking a few questions on my unit. And today i received a reply. Which i am very happy with for a number of reasons.

Hi Damien

The turbocharger we supplied AutoLusso at the time, which I presume was for your car, was a bespoke turbo designed to meet the criteria asked for by Autolusso. It was not an MDX556 or any other spec we advertise. For your information, whilst we list lots of different hybrid turbos online, a large portion of our work is building one-off specifications that are designed in collaboration with our customers to suit their individual requirements. The specification of your turbocharger includes a 56mm / 41.55mm MFS billet aluminium extended tip compressor wheel. It also includes a cutback/clipping to the turbine wheel (15 degrees) and improved turbine end oil seal (staggered gap type). We use the latest vibration sorting rigs (balancers) and vane-flow test-rigs to ensure all VNT type turbochargers meet our strict tolerances and build quality. You will notice the link Andy sent you also refers to a ‘360 degree thrust bearing’. Customers expect a 360 degree thrust bearing and many aren’t aware they are fitted to many modern turbos from the factory, so for obvious reasons we include this detail in the specs online so customers know exactly what they are getting when ordering online or reviewing our specs online. We do not brandish this part as ‘upgraded’ or ‘special’ in any way for these particular turbos, but the fact that the turbo has a 360 degree thrust bearing is an important bit of information nonetheless, so it is simply listed as “360 degree thrust bearing”. The subject of boost pressure and the figure of 24PSI is a moot point, as the turbo we built for your car is not a listed spec, nor is there any advertising for it online – it would have been discussed with Autolusso at the point of sale. As I understand it your feedback for this turbo set up was very positive and you were impressed with the power delivery and performance of the turbo. I do hope your opinion of Turbo Dynamics and the products/services we offer remain untainted by the opinions of the few misguided ‘keyboard warriors’ who proclaim to be experts or professionals.

If you have any questions or would like to start looking at other turbo options, feel free to drop me an email or call the office for a chat.

Kind regards,

Tom Russell

Hi V02Max

To be honest she has not hit the dyno yet. But with the level of boost and mods a conservative quote would be around the 220bhp and over 400lbft. With a really nice map giving me solid power across the rev range. The magic of this turbo is that it performs well at lower revs hooking up nicely to the midrange, pulling really strong to the red line. 5th gear is really impressive. Anything with a larger billet wheel from this point i would loose early in the rev range. I will be putting her on a RR soon. As i really need to optimise properly what i have. Have been discussing this with Ned for a while now. I am waiting till i get the WMI fitted, which will help things a little bit also. Sorry i cannot be more precise at this stage.

Joe

At the moment i am working out what i would gain and where with a GTB turbo. This new turbo information is interesting to say the least, and in my mind i have to digest what it means.
Looking at things on paper though, its clear that the GTB will allow me to get clear of the 250bhp mark and lots more torque. As i said Joe, it will take me a few months to work which step next, and see where i am with my present turbo with wmi and properly live mapped. So if your in a rush contact Tom, i am sure he will do a copy unit for you. As i don't want to hold you back pal.
ps. Sorry i missed you both yesterday, i was on my way back from a work trip to SFO. Let us know if you still are interested in my lovely 19's.

Damien.

Hi Mate, i will give tom a shout on monday, may even go down and see him as they are only a short hop from AL south...I have no prob's buying a better turbo if required, the FMIC will give some small gains along with a nice map tweak and this will keep my desire for more POWER! quiet for a spell....

honestly i think i'm just getting used to it and want more of a bang when I put the foot down...ADHD its a laugh a minute!

ritalin or a weekly bungee jump would be cheaper!

really nice to see your build shaping up so well, i'm looking forward to a blat in the ''finished'' product..although with you I am begin to realize this is a flexible concept!

stay well

best

Thanks Damien. I'm currently at around 190bhp and 330ft/lbs (440Nm) with the stock turbo and a Red Dot remap.

My turbo is very whistly now though (like an old-fashioned police siren) so I'm having this looked at at my 72K service in a couple of weeks' time. If it is the turbo rather than a holed pipe somewhere, then I'll probably look to get a turbo like yours. I don't think it'd be much more expensive than just a standard replacement?

It'll need another remap though of course .

She has done well on the stock 170 unit. Your siren sounds like a boost leak. Have you had your lower boost hose changed to silicone.
We are lucky to have the larger injectors fitted to our 170 cloverleafs when going hybrid. Just be aware when you get to around 380lb ft the clutch gives in..So a nice JTD performance item like mine is a great idea before hand. Please excuse me if you have covered this. Also the JTD performance or wizard cat replacement free flow downpipe is a nice addition to hybrid turbo upgrade.

Be really interested to know your state of tune? I take it you've had the manifold flap delete and egr blanked. I also redirected the crankcase fumes from my turbo to maf hose, keeps things so much cleaner in the induction system and turbo. Also used a dual catch can setup. Just ideas for keeping your prospective new turbo clean.

I can really fully recommend the Autolusso remaps. I have had quite a few maps on my clover now, as my car has been in different states of tune along the way.

Damien.
