I've been happy with Meg's products myself, so I'm in no way trying to slag their products. But in my experience, (instant) crinkling is a chemical process, and I'd guess most manufacturers of chemical stuff has the occasional Monday-batch or change of formula or supplier.
And who knows, there might have been another dozen car-owners reporting the same issue to Meg's lately, helping them identify and correct an issue in the manufacturing process to the benefit of the rest of the customers. So whether or not they'll help out fixing your car I think it is worthwhile to let them know what's happened.
That the quality of the paintwork wasn't great to begin with isn't helping of course.
