1.9jtd 147 misfire with white smoke intermittent problem
I have an Alfa 147 1.9 JTD 8V
The problem is quite hard to describe but I will give it a go.
The car will idle fine but occasionally (normally when cold or after stopping at a set of lights) when I come to rev the car to pull off the revs increase very slowly and lumpily. While this is happening white smoke is coming out the exhaust. I have to hold my foot flat on the throttle until the car revs properly again and when it does it shoots out a cloud of white smoke.
I have checked and the car is NOT losing coolant or oil.
Recently I had to change the hose between the inter cooler and the throttle body due to a split and I have also cleaned the EGR within the last few weeks.
The car doesn't through up any fault codes for the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for taking an interest! :-)
Hi all. Just thought I'd share how the problem was resolved! The EGR has been blanked off and it's running sweet as anything! IN fact better than before, more power and better fuel economy. When it was running fine before I was getting 46mpg, I'm now getting 57/58mpg! I haven't fitted a new EGR valve, just put a blanking plate in front of it. Anyway hope this helps you if you get a similar issue.
