Very sick 147 - timing belt issues and woes....

Hi all,
I could do with a little advice....
I know there are other threads similar to this but just after a bit of personalised advice really.

My beloved Alfa 147 1.9 JTD is seriously sick. on a 54 plate.

I originally got a warning light for cam shaft or crank shaft pulley and it sounded like a jet taking off... I had it towed to a garage and they've just quoted me 660 because the belt has slipped a few teeth and it's cause the following damage...
1. Stripped cam pulley
2. stripped top keyway built in to it.
3. put strain and tried twisting bottom keyway?
4. needs a new cam pulley crank shaft pulley (alfa only i've been told)
5. new belt
6. four inlet buckets
7. piston hit valve - but i've been told they haven't bent because on a diesel they are straight up or something?

I'm no mechanic but have been messing with my own cars since i was 17 so a lot of little things i know about but all the stuff i've been told is like a foreign language to me.

So question.....
Is this a good price? Do I have to be wary of anything after the work has been done?
Should I scrap the car?
Has anyone had this done and can advise?
My garage has always been reputable and fair. and they do a fair bit of work on high end cars (aston, bentley, range rover)

Thanks in advance with anything you can offer me...

Because of the amount of labour and if all these things are actually wrong with the engine, a change of engine would be a better idea.

Unless the engine is stripped you can't tell if these problems exist, otherwise they are speculating?
