Alfa 156 needs rescue
My first post here (well actually my second as having spent half an hour writing the first i clicked to post it and a page saying i had to check a box popped up, i checked it and lo and behold my writing dissapeared..)
Anyway why am I here (and lets ignore the philosophical possibilitys here), I have a very very nice 156 v6 (Alfonso) which despite most people laughing has never let me down in the 4 years I have owned it, never given any trouble beyong normal service items excepting an alternator.. which I can easily forgive.. I recently lent my beautiful 156 v6 to my wife, lets just say the cambelt idler bearing gave up.. and as she thought the terrble noise was a lorry following her she carried on driving and bought it back to me.. I immediately shut the engine off, and it was running fine..
In he came and had a new cambelt and idler kit, new water pump and all timed up with new locking blocks, well over £300 of parts and £300 labour.. started up... tap tap tap and missing a cylinder.. so must have skipped a tooth on shutdown and bent a valve.. to say im mortified doesnt come close, I genuinely love my cars and and heartbroken..
to make matters worse because I have just spent all this i now have no money left to fix it, I havnt go the heart to break him I'm seriously hoping someone here would be interesting in making me an offer for him and rescuing a really good car
its a 1999 model, resprayed last year (because the rosso red had faded NOT because of rust or accident), full black lether momo interior and spotless, no rips tears or marks, red leather gators, a service history folder as thick as a bible from the previous owner, I dont keep bills but can tell you that in my ownership (last two years specifically) new discs all round plus pads, new handbrake cable, new alternator, front tyres are almost brand new (toyo zeix) rears are very good toyo proxes, wheels were refurbed in black chome 2 years ago and have no kerbing and no buckles, suspention all replaced with koni shocks and springs, new upper arms at the front, paint work had no scuffs or scratches, no dents, even the little things like bubbling outer window seals have been replaced, as well as the rearview mirror bezels being perfectly refurbed (and mirrors colour coded), engine has been well seviced with magnatec oil, recent new plugs and filters as well as a k and n drop in air filter
Its literally wanted for nothing also has a stainless exhaust and recent new front pipes.. and new lamda.. probably a lot more to I just forgot..
As I said I am fussy, and love this car, I'm not a boy racer It is rust free, all the electrics work perfectly as does the aircon when gassed, the only fault is the motor in the n/s rear window has failed.. and the big rear spoiler has a few paint bubbles on the edge..still has the original 2 red fobs
Now I know these cars are not worth big money, but Id like to think someone could fix this one, bear in mind theres over £300 of brand new cam kit and water pump.. thats without the fact that the rest of the car is really nice.. and yes i know I'm not going to get very much for him.. he does still start and will move about unhappily.. there were no bad noises or knocks from any part of the car when driving.. really its a good one..

a good 2nd hand 2.5 from lusso and put it in and he'll be off again ready for more loyal service.. :-)
