Hi everyone. I recently bought my first alfa and although I was often warned off them by various friends I eventually decided to just go for it and hope for the best and even though I have had nothing but these blooming problems I can see why people love these cars
So I manage to bag myself a really clean 147 jtd 16v m-jet with 1 previous owner and full service history and 60,000 on the clock. I bought it with a slight fuel leak and a suspected split turbo hose but both things seemed like easy fixes as I was pretty certain the fuel leak was just a loose fuel filter? I put my foot down on the test drive and she seemed to pull nicely even with a split hose. So I drive her slowly back home, buy some nice new silicone samco hoses and send her off to day and whites in brands hatch for them to fit the hoses, give her a full service and check the whole car out and let me know if I had bought a lemon or not?
I arrive at the garage everyone is lovely and they provide me with a black alfa gt with the exact same engine in as my own. As I leave the garage the first thing I notice is that the gt has shed loads more power. A couple of days later I get a call from day and whites to collect my car and it's good news. Apparently I bought myself a good car at at a reasonable price and the only problem other than the hoses was a the fuel filter needed replacing which was done In the full service anyway which was great.
So I collect near the end of the day and when I get in I realise they have left me with absolutely do diesel. It didn't bother me as they might have been doing loads of test drives etc so no probs but the first thing I notice is it seems very sluggish. Possibly even more than before I took it there? I get to the petrol garage only about a mile away and fill her up with fuel get back in and as the cars doing the system check I hear a clicking/grinding noise from under the bonnet? The car is saying it only has half the about of oil in it and the digital mileometer is now flashing? I called day and whites immediately and they said to come back. When I get there they had no idea why that had happened and asked me to leave it with them so they could have a look. I said i tell you what whilst you have it why don't you do the cambelt and water pump for me at the same time. so I get back in the gt and leave it with them for another week. Eventually they get back to me and say it needed a air flow meter and something else needed doing. I argued that I wouldn't have to pay for these but they wasn't having any of it but assured me it would be making a big performance difference. So I collect the car and it feels the same! I'm now £1000 lighter and not really happy. I asked if the gt had any performance parts and they said it's completely standard. When I ague that some thing must be wrong with my car if it's as slow as it is they just keep telling me that it's running perfectly and the reason there one feels quicker is because it has just had £3000 spent on it?
Now I just want to make clear I'm not moaning about a slight difference here my car takes 14 seconds to do 0-60 it seems slower than when I gave it to them and they have charged me a grand in the process
One week later and I get a waning light saying motor control failure! So I take it to my friend who plugs it into diagnostics and it says cam shaft sensor failure. He says maybe they knocked it or something simple when doing the cambelt and that I should take it back to them for them to have a look at. When I get there they say it's definitely not got anything to do with them etc etc etc. eventually they sort it for me but one week later and I got the same bloody thing and still no performance.
Has anyone else had any experience with day and whites?
Surely my car shouldn't be this slow and is wrong of them to tell me it's fine?
Is there any other alfa garages anyone can recommend in kent/maidstone area?
Any idea what the problem could be?
I hate having a dig at company's but I did feel like she was being very stubborn with me and saying it had nothing to do with them without even looking she could have got it in and then the mechanic says o yes I didn't scream it in properly or something?
Thank you in advance for tour help and I hope to be a very happy alfa owner in the near future.
all the best
