I want to buy a new set of painted discs, but can you use them with standard pads?
Having done some research on here, I think I want to go with Brembo Painted discs and Pagid pads which all seem reasonable and fit my criteria of standard looking (not drilled and grooved), no noise and good braking. I like the idea of painted discs as corrosion can be unsightly. Any better pad options would be appreciated. It seems as tho Brembo and Mintex could generate noise?? I’m put off by Ferodo as they seem race orientated, can be noisy, expensive and may not last long.
I have just purchased a 2008 Alfa GT Jtdm, after 9 years with my beloved petrol 147 <Up for sale soon, and it is going to break my heart to see it go!>.
The brake discs on the GT are pitted. I’ve driven a couple of diesel GTs before and none of them stop very quickly – it’s a big concern.
If anyone knows of any good disc/pad combos that meet my criteria, I would be grateful for the advice.
I can do the discs and pads, but anything else is likely to be beyond my fumbling capabilities. Is it worth investing in braided hoses? Is it worth investing in bigger calipers/discs and pads due to the diesel lump in the nose? If anyone has any other recommendations that make a big difference, I would be grateful to know. Obviously tyres play a big part. I will change the tyres soon as the current ones are not brilliant. Anyone know what the original 18” alloys would have been shod with? I would be nice to keep things original.
All braking advice welcome! Thanks,
