Well, I recieved my thermostat yesterday as shop4parts said I would and quickly got on to the job of fitting it.
took off the old thermostat which is, as other people on this forum let me know an easy job and fitted the new one.
my only issue was the one that i removed did not actually have the thermostat part fitted, it was just an empty elbow joint
I put everything back together and went for a test drive keeping a very careful eye on the temperature guage.
Now temperature seems to read as I would expect.
after 10 mins of driving the temperature goes half way between 50 and 90 and after a bit longer and after sitting in a bit of traffic it sits on the 9 of 90 - does this now seem right?
any ideas why the last owner might have removed the old thermostat?
the car did have a new engine 17000 miles ago and the old one was apparently replaced because of overheating.
Could it just be a lazy mechanic, removing it because it was considered possibly at fault for the problems with the original engine and never replaced?
