Sunroof delete - has anyone ever done it?

Hello again!

In the process of turning the 156 into a track car, I am considering a sunroof delete before the full-on roll-cage. I know there are sunroof delete panels for BMWs, but never heard about one for 156s....
Does anyone have any suggestions? Weld a panel in place? Fiberglass panel made to measure?

Before anyone suggests getting a 156 without a sunroof - Every 156 that was imported to Brazil had a sunroof - the importers (FIAT) specified them this way, so there is no 156 here with a metal roof...

Easiest way would be to get another 156 roof and use the rear half which is near identical and use it to fill the space.

Alternative would be to remove the sunroof and mechanism, then use the sunroof as a template to make a steel panel and weld it in.

if your going to delete the sun roof i would leave a ventilation hole to allow cold air in, i've a lot of experience in motorsport, i've worked in BTCC and i know that we always put ventilation in the roof as you can get very hot when racing and since you wont have air con, a roof scoop is very useful

Check also with the regs. It may HAVE to be steel and welded.

I,ve done similar on a clio a few times..

some times changed the roof skin so times welded in a metal panel ...

would never run a fibreglass roof panel on a track car even with a cage..

though could run a carbon roof skin over the top to neaten the look...

Small welds and lots of cooling in between stops it rippling the roof section
