Its not hard to improve on the standard dampers Alfa fitted.
A decent coilover kit or uprated springs/shocks needn't be any more uncomfortable - there are quite a few threads on suspension which should give some options.
Generally you would be given a choice of sprint rates based on what sort of driving you do, and the dampers would be valved to match, or if you can afford a little extra get adjustable dampers which make an enormous differecne and allow you to fine tune things exactly the way you want them.
After doing so you will also wonder why Alfa didn't choose good enough dampers since the car will be so darn much better.
Certianly my experience anyway.
