Advice needed

I run a 156 jts which is a great car, it's fitted with c&b cams and runs very well, it's only problem is usually when cold the tick over can be uneven. Our other car is a fiat GP, super little car that gets used most of the time, and there lies the issue. Neither car does a massive mileage but the fiat does all the local running because it's much more frugal on fuel. We really don't need two cars so I was thinking about getting a diesel, either a 159 or a GT. Now here's the problem, when I read about diesels it is suggested that short runs are not a good idea, now if that's due to the PDF then that can be got around, but if it's other things then maybe I need a rethink. Also, on the 159 section there seems to be a number of members that wished they had kept there 156's, which made me think about the GT, I don't need a four door car. I am beginning to think that keeping both is a good idea. What do you guys think?
