That sounds normal.
The thermostat should keep the temperature around 86C. At 88C it is fully open.
If you're in traffic then the temperature will continue to increase. Without any air passing through the radiator, there's no other way for the car to stay cool.
At 92C the fan will come on and stay on until the temperature is back down to 88C.
Did the garage fit a new thermostat? If you had a stuck thermostat before, then the car would run cooler - around 65-70C on the open road... but that's too cold and the ECU would be running rich, to try to make the engine warm up.
What you have now is how it's supposed to be. Make sure you use 50% "anti-freeze" (pink or blue glycol coolant) in the cooling system. It protects the gasket, radiator, pump and thermostat from becoming corroded by the water. Don't use 100% water.
