156 2.4 JTD 20v - first impressions...
I've done 200 miles in my 54 plate 2.4jtd 156 now. I like it! I had a 10v early model with the 136bhp engine previously so I suppose I'm comparing with that in the back of my mind. Some things I've noticed...
Mine has the facelift interior which I like. I like the stereo controls on steering wheel and the general look of the dash. the The trip computer doesn't seem accurate though and I still can't work out the ventilation controls but I'm getting there. I think the aircon also needs a re-gas,
The engine certainly pulls well but isn't as characterful as the 10v engine in my last car. It's definitely more refined but I'm thinking if a different exhaust and/or induction kit might improve it but I don't want it to affect my insurance so I'll have to think on that one.
The ride is good. Firm but absorbs speed bumps well. I think I'm right in saying that the later 156'd had revised suspension? If I'm being critical there is a lack of steering feel but that could be partly down to the cheap make tyres. It does handle well though and certainly more fun than my previous A4.
The Bose stereo is ok but I think I might need to make some improvements as it doesn't have a lot of clout. New speakers or a better amp perhaps?
The leather interior is nice and the seats are supportive. They are meant to be heated but i don't think the drivers one works. That might be something I need to accept on an older car as I can't see how it would be an easy fix.
Overall I'm happy with the car. It looks good and has a lot of character which is what I was wanted after 7 years with an Audi A4. Just need to find out how to release that engine note!
