Looky Looky Well oil be damned!

Just finished giving my 156 JTD Turismo a service - replaced all filters and oil, cleaned everything up and did an ECU reset.

The car runs so much better now, but have a quick question regarding oil filters. I used GTD Magnatec oil with a Halfords Oil filter. The oil filter turns out is longer than the original Fiat one which was fitted - probably by about 1 1/2 inches. I rang Halfords whjo said that this is sometimes normal and not to worry and I definately had the right one. The only drawback is the filter cover will not fit anymore. Are Halfords pulling the wool over my eyes?

One other thing - should a turismo JTD have an undertray fitted? Mine doesn't

Alfa Romeo history in order - 156 Sele, 156 Sele, Spider 156jtd facelift, 147 1.6, 156 GTA, GTV 3.0, 156jtd, 145QV, 156GTA, 145qv

Yes you should have an undertray.
Yes you should refit the cover over the oil filter, it is there to protect it from the heat of the turbo.

A genuine filter will fit properly.
