Went to start my 2002 147 Selespeed today and it wouldnt start. (Was driving it last night fine)
When turning the key to start you can hear the clutch being pushed (not sure if that initial noise is the clutch) followed by a consistent and non-erratic clicking noise which continues until I release the key.
Let me tell you what I've checked to eliminate? a few things..
- Battery is fine, colour indicates normal charge and tried jump starting it to no success.
- Reset the ECU.
- Checked selespeed fluid which was low so topped it up with high-spec ATF fluid (red in colour.. ok to mix with gold one which was already in tank?)
- Checked all electronic connections as well as fuses and relays.
- Oil levels are fine also.
What is happening specifically is when I turn the key, the selespeed does not automatically return the gearbox to neutral which leads me to believe that the problem lies within the selespeed system? This may also exclude the starter motor from being the problem as its not getting the chance to kick over because it isnt going into neutral, correct?
I really am baffled, and am hoping this is not going to cost me an arm and a leg, or even lots of $$$
Would really appreciate any help as to what the problem may be and the solution, because right now the car is just sitting there and its cutting me up badly..
