Fuel/exhaust smell with heater on
Hi I was wondering if anyone else had had a similar problem.
When stationary in my car, with the heater on I get a smell that smells like a cross between exhaust fumes and fuel. This only seems to happen with the heater on the hot position.
I first thought it may be a blowing exhaust, as it looked quite rusty. I have since replaced this and had the rest of the system checked for leaks and is definitely OK.
I can also smell no similar smells under the bonnet with the engine running, and the seal at the top of the bulkead that keeps the engine compartment sealed from the heater inlet is in good condition.
I have also checked the fuel lines between the tank and the engine and they appear ok. They are seperate from the heater intake area anyway.
Does anyone else have any ideas of where the smell may be coming from? I was suspicious of a leaky heater matrix, but I have no other symptoms of this, like dropping coolant, or damp carpets. I also would have expected any leaks here to smell of coolant, not of what it does..
The car does have aircon BTW, it happens when this is on or off, but only when blowing hot. Is there a charcoal cannister anywhere that may be leaking near the heater inlet for example.
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
