ok after fixing my selespeed prob. i have just experienced the strangest fault on my alfa i have ever heard of, there is a certain road close to my home i dont drive very often but each time i do the computer tells me the ABS VDC Powersteering and some other abreviasion i cant remember fails. nowhere else does this problem arise. does my alfa not like this rd. or am i going crazy is there someone else that has this problem or do i have to go look for help in the loony bin???
With me, the first sign was the battery light like when you turn on the ignition, only it was on while the car was running, then the screen showed ABS Failure, VDC Failure, MCSF, and all sorts of other lights flashing all over the place including the ASR button coming on and off by itself.,, so i dimmed my lights switched off my stereo and drove to my mechanics place with only the foglights on...
I knew already what the problem was
... a stuffed alternator...
, (which coincides with the rainy season in Dubai, always.... second time now, so it's can't be a coincidence... maybe i need to use an undertray for winter then remove it in summer... cos alfa's here have no undertrays, otherwise they overheat big time....) the last straw was the dimming of all the dashboard lights, then i knew i was running on my last bit of battery charge...
With my GTA selespeed, I usually do the following;
Clutch Bleed once every 2 weeks - Thanks to Alfadiag
EOL Calibration once a month
My batterys always in good nick, any drop in charge and i chuck it and buy a new one
Clutch sensor, gear selection sensor, brake switch are all replaced at the same time..
Replace accumulator bottle as soon as your car begins to shift to neutral uncommanded..
I reckon IMHO actuator and pump only last about 70,000 - 80,000km in the GTA, so replaced mine already...
Also did gearbox oil change at 75,000km when i replaced my diff with Q2..
Happy to report that she now runs like a dream.... i have a reliable
selespeed, last 5,000km with no issues..
