Well, went to look at my first Alfa GT this morning feeling excited that i may have a shiny new toy on my driveway. Being only 5 miles away surely it was meant to be?!
First impressions were not great. The car was stuck in the corner of the traders front garden, looking a little dirty and neglected. I straight away clocked budget tyres all-round and a number of dents on the roof. The battery was flat and needed jumping, and I noticed a white powedery residue on the underside of the bonnets sound deadening, not sure if something had 'gone' and sprayed something there. Clips were missing and odd bolts were on the engine cover.
Inside the interior felt tired, with the plastics not wearing particularly well, and an error message for numberplate bulb.
I felt obliged to take it for a spin seeing as the dealer had to move 4 cars to get it out for me. The clutch felt heavy and the gearstick failed to centre itself. It was very clattery on startup, but hey i guess its a diesel. It actually drove quite well, apart from a rattling from the rear. I pulled over and realised the parcel shelf had a broken mounting clip. No biggy, but just another indication the previous owner probably didn't care less about the car.
Back at the garage, i checked the jacking points, busted both sides. And then noticed a few more nasty deep scratches and scuffs.
The dealer offered "we can get it mopped for you?"
And i politely walked away.
Oh well never mind, at least i know a bad one when i see it now.
