Off thread a bit but just out of interest, by new A3 DSG does the same.
With the footbrake on, it stays in gear with the clutch disengaged. You can feel the clutch reengage and start to "drag the car" when you lift off the brake even before touching the throttle.
But sadly, the handbrake doesn't have the same effect - the clutch engages and you can feel the car straining against the handbrake - so I have to sit with my foot on the brake dazzling the poor guy behind....
