Spider TS cam belt service
I, after much deliberation have decided to do the cam belt service on my Spider myself. Best quote inc variator was £540 IIRC. I will need some tools such as cam locks, idler tension tool (balance belt I think) variator lock/release tool and a DTI. Not used the latter since my engineering apprenticship.
What do you or how do you attach the DTI to the engine? You can get them with a magnetic stand/base, is that the way forward or is there some bracket I could make to bolt it to the top of the engine somewhere?
The other thing that scares me a little is the business of releasing the cam sprockets when tensioning the belt as though I've done a few cam belts in my time I have never done this before (along with DTI for TDC). I see the logic (partially) in that so long as the crank does not move in relationship to the cam shafts then it must be at TDC. Just not a practice I've seen elsewhere.
Also is the balancer belt something you do as part of the cam belt change? I had one on my Honda Accord and never changed that when I did the belt.
I have a few things to do before I get around to it so it maybe in a month or so before I start, not sure whether to buy the bits now or near the time. eBay seems a good source and maybe some parts from the AlfaWorkshop? Any thoughts or preferences for bits as eBay of late has been my first choice along with Europarts for general car parts, brakes, suspension and alike.
Priorities I find, are usually someone else's.
Statements above are all my own opinion and not fact.
