My 147 should be ready today

Recon rack located by dealer, hopefully will be at the garage this morning to be fitted this afternoon. As the car is currently blocking the ramp, hoping it will be today!

Bad news about my MX5 though - it has fared poorly in the wet and windy weather and there is also a knocking noise from the wheel of this car as well! Could be another steering rack job.....

Wish me luck on both counts guys.......

Have you been driving across newly ploughed fields again, Wilms?

Good luck, you must be going up the wall!

Re: My 147 should be ready today

Well, promising news.

The dealership did not have a reconditioned rack, and as my local specialist has good contacts with the dealer having worked there, they are giving me a new rack for the same price as a reconditioned one (280 plus vat). Now on the car, just need the valve, to be fitted tomorrow.

Apparently the power steering rack valve is separate to the rack, does not come together.

I am posting this here as I recall somebody else appeared to have the same valve problem I did. If it is you, and you are reading this, give the steering wheel a waggle. If no knock, then appears that your problem is just the valve (steering over assists at random times). If it does knock, then it appears you need a new rack, and a new valve.

Hope this is of help to somebody. It certainly gave me a shed load of grief, but hoping tomorrow will give me great joy
