When doing the cambelt on my 2 litre TS today I noticed a small amount of black sludge in the cam cover area. Is this a very common problem on these engines and is it likely to cause any problems? My car has a full service history but has probably done many short trips as it is below average mileage.
The oil itself in the engine looks quite clean, however I have some fully synthetic on order (Motul 8100) so I will hopefully change it next week. I was worried that a better quality syntheitic oil would displace the sludge and cause it to block oilways. Is this possible?
Its not a massive amount of sludge present, more of a black coloured varnish on everything with a few sludgey bits in the corners of things..
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
