Re: 147 advice

the usual full service history from either a main dealer or indie specialist...

cambelt and tensioner change every 36k or 3 years, whichever is sooner...AN ABSOLUTE MUST..

all the keys, they are expensive to get cut and programmed...

make sure all the electrics work..

the oil is at the top mark...if you get a TS they can use a wee bit of oil, so keeping an eye on the oil is a weekly check...

if you need help with the selespeed have a search up top...there is plenty of helpful tips and advice....

a couple of sites worth looking at for parts ...

all the best

mike you ***** you beat me to replying! lol

147 buyers guide

a recent post asking the same

as mike says, biggest two things you absolutely MUST be certain of before buying any alfa romeo, has the cambelt been replaced recently, it must be done every 36k miles, they have a tendancy to snap and take out the head if not done! secondly, has the oil level been kept to max or close? check the engine when your looking, take her for a drive, let her warm up, get back to the garage and check the oil. if shes nowere near full WALK AWAY.

as for selespeed, its very much a love/hate thing. try it out and see if you like it. it does take some getting used to but i personally find it a great system and i know many others do too. yes there is a lot of bad press about it but i dont honestly think there is enough to worry about when you look at the good experiances. someone in the link i supplied said for every good one theres 5 duffs... sorry but thats utter bullsh*t. i have no idea where that came from and i doubt anyone will agree with it!

best of luck and welcome to the forums.

ps, try the GTA out... just so you can see what an alfa really is all about

Re: 147 advice

As my learned colleagues say..
Check the oil.
then check it again and check whoever had the car before was checking it too.

Sit on the front wing and check for a squeak/creak, if it does you may need a new anti-roll bar.

Oh and if it sounds like a diesel when it fires up from cold, the variator needs replacing.
