Filler Cap

I have a 147 derv. and the fuel filler cap is somewhat annoying! I have only just managed to get it to lock shut with the ign key and even still, it can rotate 360degrees and feels a bit loose. Is this normal?

Re: Filler Cap

Not certain if it's normal on a 147 but all aftermarket locking caps I've had it's taken a certain "Knack" to lock them & then once locked they would freely rotate to stop them being twisted off

Re: Filler Cap

Hi Nick & welcome to AO

Yes.... it's normal but annoying! A number of forum members (including myself) have reported similar problems with the the standard issue lockable fuel cap on recent Alfas as it's a total pain to operate.

In my case I resolved the problem by replacing it with the non-lockable cap which is listed as standard equipment on the 2005 156. Easy enough for me as I am based in UAE, and we dont have vehicle security problems here.

Re: Filler Cap

The Filler Cap unlocks anti-clockwise. (I guess you know that)

The knack is.., when you put the cap on, turn the cap clockwise so it clicks three times, making sure you turn the cap, Not the key !, once it's clicked a couple or three times, hold the cap and turn the key clockwise to lock.

If you turn the key to close the cap, it'll just lock without being clicked into position.

Hope it helps..
