Okay, here is the latest.
Garage had a look in their pit, but could not trace the root cause.
They are therefore thinking either something called a knuckle, which is apparently replaceable for not a lot, or the rack.
What is this knuckle, and if they go, is the rack normally okay?
Worst case scenario it is the rack – recon for £270 plus 4 hours labour at £35 per hour, = £500.
They will get it on the ramp this afternoon to drop the subframe and assess what the problem is.
I therefore need to decide by 1 if I keep my 147, or bite the bullet, stop any more work on the 147 and go for the GTV!
As only £500 to sort I am tempted to keep the 147 on grounds of loving the 147 handling (when it works!) and enjoying better economy, also have the practicality of the hatch as well. On the other hand, a 2002 02 plate GTV with 29K’s 3.0 at £8K sounds too good to miss out on.
