Indeed, the basic design goes right back to the Fiat Tipo which came out in 1986 I think.

1988, but design of the chassis started much earlier. The 156/147/GT sits on a severely revised chassis. Tipo used the type 2 platform, 155 the type 3 platform, Stilo uses the c platform and a variant of this is used for the alfas
