New 156 2.4JTD 20V owner. Long fault ridden post - DY04 AEE, was it yours?
I was hoping to be the proud owner of a 2004 156 2.4JTD 20v, however after buying it from a less than honest dealer and previous owner, I've run in to a hole host of problems. The reg is DY04 AEE, if anyone on here owned it before me and knew full well what they were doing when the sold it on.....well I have a few choice words!
To cut a long story short: Bought car from what seemed a very professional used car dealer 80miles away near Birmingham for £1600. Took car for test drive, no visible problems bar a faulty right rear indicator and car drove well for 100k miles. 10 miles from home, god awful noise from turbo and the cambelt and the front tyre blew due to something rubbing on it. With my 6month old daughter in the back. Basically it turned out the car was covered in quick fixes that would only show themselves a few miles down the road.
Got car to a garage to get it checked out and they found the following:
- Turbo was buggerd
- Needed new cambelt (was only 15k miles old!)
- Faulty rear light unit
- Fault codes P0238 & P0704
- Snapped exhaust bracket
- Leaking crank seal
- Right rear passenger floor so rotton it was too dangerous to drive or have anyone sat in the back
Then the fun began. I rejected the car, dealer wouldn't give money back. That dragged on so filed a court claim. Looked deep in to their company history and they had closed down and reopened under a different name after a previous claim. They then offered half my money back which really I had no choice but to take. I also still had a warranty, but....
the Warranty turned out to be useless as I had been miss sold it!
All this was 4 weeks ago. Tuesday I finally picked up my car with a new turbo, cambelt and other fixes. Drove it to work and gave it some welly, it was perfect. However, driving home I gave it some welly, hit 3000rpm in 3rd gear, there was smoke out of the exhaust and the MCSF came up, lost all boost and it went into limp mode. I pulled over, turned off the engine, checked it over then carried on. All seemed ok. Hit 3000rpm again and the intercooler to turbo pipe popped off and you could hear all the air escaping :mad
Took it back to garage today, they refitted the pipe and all seemed fine, until again I hit 3000rpm, bit of black smoke, MCSF and car in limp mode. The MCSF shows as soon as the key is turned in the ignition and its carried out all the checks, before the engine is even turned on. There is a bit of black smoke when revving, but not much.
Could it be that the EGR is stuck, combined with a failing intercooler to turbo hose, or could it be an overboost problem? I want to be able to go to the garage and tell them exactly what to check rather than go around in circles!
Phew, long post!
