Ignition problem, immobiliser

I have an over-zealous immobiliser on my 156 - it's so vigilant that it sometimes won't allow the actual key to start the car.

The problem is intermitent and not always when I first start it in the morning: I turn the key, all the lights come and go apart from the 'code' one which stays on leaving me stranded. It usually heals itself after I repeat the starting procedure or get out, lock and unlock the car and try again (my spare key doesn't seem to help). I don't think its the battery in the key fob as the remote alarm works at about 150 yards!!!

Any advice gratefully received. Cheers

Re: Ignition problem, immobiliser

Usually the connection from the aerial around the key barrel to the code ECU under the dash.
A search for "Code ECU" should find loads of info.

Re: Ignition problem, immobiliser

As David said.

Temporary measure, try poking the aerial here and there to get it started when it plays up. (Aerial is around the ignition barrel and runs to a black box behind the fusebox.)

You can also damage your cat in your exhaust if you repeat trying to start and it doesn't.
