As I've always said. Look after the car and it'll look after you.
I'm on my 5th Alfa. My first was a brand new 147 1.6TS. So was fully serviced all the time. Had a few issues, but never left me stranded.
2nd was a 2.0 147. Only put oil and petrol in it. never went wrong.
3rd was a project 155. Never went wrong. Spent a few quid on making sure it didn't break down.
4th my 156 2.0TS changed brake pads, and tyres, and oil nothing went wrong.
My current GT I bought cheap, so have spent out on new discs and pads all round, hand brake cables, new rear bearings, new sump plug and oil & filter change, pollen filter change, new stereo, fixed air bag light, top hat bushes to do. Now it runs better than ever.
Spend a few quid on your car to keep it fresh and things won't surprise you.
If you do have to spend, do it with your eyes open and make sure it's not to feed a money pit, and that it's actually going to increase the enjoyment or prolong it's life.
If you're just changing things when they go wrong, you'll be one of those people who complain that Alfa's are unreliable. Or if you look after it, you'll be like most of us on here who get great cars cheap because the uninformed masses don't look after their cars.
Your Alfa Romeo.
Drive it like you've nicked it!
