147 as first car/new family car advice
Hi! I've had a search online in general and on here, but it's a bit hard to gather some of the things I want to ask.
I never had much interest or need for a car, until recently, so last year I did lessons and passed my driving test.
I'm 31, getting married soon, then we will be starting a family.
Since passing I've been insured on a relatives car and get to use that every so often, it's a Micra 1.2. Nothing amazing, but it's my baseline to compare cars as that's what I have the most experience in.
I've discovered that I really enjoy driving, and I've missed out on it for over a decade!
So we're no looking to get a car, and I've had my eye on a 147.
Budget is around £5k, pushing it could go to 7, but that's not needed from the prices I've seen.
The 1.9JTD seems to make sense, decent power and efficiency, and not expensive. Tax is ok too.
As a diesel, I'm assuming that it would do a decent amount of miles and be fine? So looking at ones with 60-70,000mi would be considered ok?
I've looked into the car in general, and not seen any major issues, other than talk of cambelts needing to be changed earlier than originally suggested. Are there any other unique things to be on the lookout for?
We'd be looking at a 5 door for practicality, future baby seats etc. How is the boot for buggies?
The second car on my interest list is the Suzuki Swift, they seem fun and decent budget cars. But the Alfa is that bit more special, and with a better cabin etc. Running costs of the 1.9JTD and 1.5GLX Swift are comparable. Insurance is fine on the quotes I've looked at so far.
Is the 147 a decent first car Would a diesel with 70k on the clock be seen as not high milage? Has anyone got experience as these for a new family?
