Hmmm wishbone problem?

Heh heh, looks like dramas maybe ahead! Noticed a slight knocking noise yesterday from the drivers side front. When i checked the front wheel there was a little play when pulled. Took the wheel off and the disc seemed to only be held on by the caliper with no screw or bolt just a guide pin, is this normal? Think this is probably ok but the noise maybe a suspension issue. The car was only mot'd last week with nothing noted to change, and it drives and handles great with no noises on good surfaces am i being overly concerned?

Re: wishbone problem?

If by "guide pin" you mean the very small bolt with a spike pointing outwards, yes that is normal. It is all clamped tightly by the wheel bolts anyway.

Re the wheel movement, is it moving in/out or forwards/backwards?

Re: wishbone problem?

The wheel has slight play when pulled from side to side with one hand at the right and one at left the of the wheel, feels like it is moving away from the car if you know what i mean?

Re: wishbone problem?

That could be the track-rod on the end of the steering rack (or the rack itself!).

Worn wishbone ball-joints would most likely move when you pull top & bottom. Although I had to get a lever on mine to find the play (but the ball-joint boots were split so they had to go anyway).
