I'm getting towards the end of repairing my 156 - cylinder liner for cyl 4 cracked, had loads of fun replacing it.
I started it up yesterday, and it fired up pretty much straight away
All timing marks staying in place after starting and everything.
It's very loud, cos I can't get the rear exhaust manifold back on proper, gonna pay someone to do this for me. Anyway, when I first started it with front manifold missing as well, it would fire up, but needed accelerator input to keep it going. For first two secs, would be over responsive to accelerator, then calmed down, but would stall if I let go of pedal. Neighbour was telling me there was a fireball where the front exhaust manifold should have been, so I connected this, engine performed the same.
Then I thought air pipe wasn't on throttle body properly, so did this nicely, and car would start, splutter and stall, wouldn't go over 1krpm, or last more than 3-4 secs.
I rung a mate who asked me if I had any water in the thing, which I didn't at that stage, filled up with water, and it was idling fine, but at about 1100.
This makes me think its nearly there, but not getting proper lambda signal cos of rear manifold, and needs a little drive/ecu reset once this is sorted. Does this seem right to you lot?
Only problems - water leak from bottom pipe of rad - need new jubillee. Another water leak - dripping down where gearbox joins to engine. I'm guessing the thermostat housing needs some seeing to.
However, the injector light has been on through all of this. When turn key to ignition - but not even starter, lights come on, inj blinks off when other warning lights go out, but comes back after a split second. Even if I perform ecu reset, and turn to ign, but don't start, it comes on. Anyone got any ideas what this could be?
