Setting the timing
I have a (2001) 156 2.0TS which insists on firing on open inlet valves. I cannot have it run for more than just a second or two before it backfires wildly (and here I fear doing untold damage). Have set the mechanical components of timing correctly (cams, crankshaft, tensioners, etc) and have replaced the crank sensor. Am about to replace the camshaft sensor before taking in the computer to be tested. What have I missed? Sparkplugs are in reasonable order. Someone suggested that the coil packs may be at fault - perhaps, but I cannot imagine all four coil packs failing simultaneously. What do you suggest is the next step towards an otherwise beautifully smooth-running engine?
Also, where on this motor do I find the engine number stamped?
Lastly, where can I obtain (I'm in Australia) a decent workshop manual for this car?
Cheers and thanks, Ray.
