Idea 156 INFO Computer Display

Just a quick question.
I have a 2003 156, I have a problem when the car is in the sun
and heats up a little. The info center display becomes patchy and
almost unreadable. Is this a normal defect? or is it fixable?

Well Happy Re: 156 INFO Computer Display

My cars the same as yours, but even on the hottest days in this country I didn't notice anything wrong with the read out. Mind you it is probably a lot hotter in OZ.

Re: 156 INFO Computer Display

Show off It's freezing (literally) over here and the display gets very slow (as it's an LCD??).

Can't say I ever noticed a problem when it was hot, either over here or in Italy in May or South of France in September though

Have you tried adjusting the brightness??

Re: 156 INFO Computer Display

Nope it's a defect. Despite it being 'hot' the display shouldn't be patchy. Dodgy or broken componentry.

Nor me, aside from taking it's time due to the cold - nowt.

It is just a red lit LED, so the cold causes a slowdown in reaction time, the heat could be cooking it

Re: 156 INFO Computer Display

Does anyone else think the lighting to the desplay is arse about face? When it is a bright sunny day the display is unreadable. However, turn your lights on and it is bright enough to read. So shouldn't it be more brightly lit with your lights off and less bright when your lights are turned on as when it is dark it can be read ok anyway.

Re: 156 INFO Computer Display

I had mine for 3 years and it was always like this. On a long winter run (heating on) the screen got very hot and a bit patchy.

In the summer if the car was hot I got the same result until the AC cooled it down.

Frustratingly the Connect screen below didnt work properly when the car was COLD!

G&Y Cloverleaf- you can adjust the brightness with the lights on and off for day and night, this should not be a problem.

On the 159 the computer is linked to a daylight sensor and has a tendency to flare up if you have you lights on during the day (rain etc) and it flicks between day and night mode.

Re: 156 INFO Computer Display

Mine's exactly the same. Any day over about 32 (which will be just about every day soon) it's very patchy until the aircon cools it down. I'm glad the aircon cools something down as it certainly doesn't cool me down (bloody heat!)

On a 40 degree day the screen was completely blank for about 10mins!
