JTD pulleys

Hi all,

My 20v Jtd needs some TLC, and I need help.

After driving through a semi flooded country lane at speed last year (not intentionally!), the engine developed a whiny sound.

No damage done, but I suspected one of the lower auxiliary pulleys. A few mechanics have had a look, but at the time could not trace which pulley it was.

It has over the last year got worse, and sounds like a high mileage van!

The auxiliary belt also needs changing, as it is squeaking and I am going to get the offending pulley looked at. I haven't had time to take it to leave it at a garage due to work, but they thought the noise may be coming from the the AC compressor. This does seem to be the lowest pulley.

Is the alternator also low down?

If so can the bearings be changed on the pulleys on either?

Also is the compressor or alternator the same as the one fitted to 16v 1.9 JTD? I may be able to pick up a used one from a scrapped car...

Thanks for the help.

Aux belt came to pieces today.

I have taken the car to the garage, hopefully they can trace the faulty pulley. I'am hoping it is the standard pulley and not the AC compressor or something else expensive.

Judging by the sound it made before, I hope I am right. It is the same sort of sound high mileage vans make.

Had this on my 147 ts and it was the belt pulley. It sheared off. But it was making the same noise.

Belt changed and small pulley and main tensioner - engine purring away quietly now. Nice to be able to hear the engine again!
