Re: Newbie here - question re: 147 JTD

Where's my post gone

Let's try again:

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle stages of getting my license and am thinking about what car I want to get, and I just can't get the 147 out of my head!

So, having read around a bit I realised that despite having drastically improved built quality since the last Alfa iterations, there are still some issues that one has to pay attention to, so therefore I got some questions which will help me make my mind up:

1) How reliable are the engines on the diesel? Do they have the same cambelt and oil issues as the TS?

2) I hear from some people that oil or petrol/diesel can start leaking overnight for no apparent reason, is that true? Anything one can do about it?

3) For about £4k, I can get a 2001/2002 model with about 150-200k kilometres on the clock. Apart from regular cambelt changes, what issues ought I to look for in such high-mileage cars?

4) Would you recommend a 147 diesel as a first car? More with regards to handling, gears, car control etc, rather than money?

Many thanks in advance

Re: Newbie here - question re: 147 JTD

I think Roswell is playing his tricks again! ;>)

I believe that the diesel engines (the 1.9jtd) are very strong and reliable, the 2.4 in the 156 has had some little known issues though, I know that alot of people on here would recomend the diesel, especially if you are able to get hold of the JTD'm, they are pretty quick
