All kinds of errors are blinking on my screen now....
This is the intro to the site I wrote a few days ago which will hopefully fill you in on whats happend to my car since buying it!
Test drove the car 4 weeks ago - knocking from underneath.....dealer sorted it by replacing one of the drop links - job done...or so I thought!
..3 days later knocking again - found a small Alfa Indie in west london - put it on ramp and replaced the other drop link (£30) fitted - (he also noticed the ARB had a bit of play in it - left it for now though - too expensive to do at moment). knocking solved...pleased again....until...
...different knocking (when moving steering wheel back and forth) started a few days later....sounded like top wishbones from what you guys mentioned on this site - took it back to the indie....1/2 hour later "needs new steering rack....." oh dear £300 for part + labour!
thankfully covered by aftermarket warranty (Customer Protect)....car being picked up tomorrow (and the indie replaced the ARB...just charged me seperate for the part as the labour involved was 'part of the steering rack strip ie easy to do at the time...- wicked!" - really hoping she stays well behaved now - think I may be extending the warranty though!
Hopefully that fills you in a bit - anyway, I picked the car up thismorning and the computer system is bleeping and showing the following..... VDC System failure......ABS System failure......and Traction Control system failure!....these errors continue to show whilst driving and the ABS and Traction signs are illuminated on the dash too. These errors were not showing before taking the car in to have steering rack done....
The only message shown before taking the car in to do the steering rack was "Motor control system failure"...which happened once. I asked the garage to diagnose this and also reset the service counter.
Is there any way the diagnositic equipement could have caused damage and thats why it's showing these errors now? Could replacing the steering rack have caused this issue - ie are there any sensors that need to come off and go back on when doing this kind of work and the mechanic has forgotten to replace something....?
The mechanic mentioned the error may be being caused by a sensor relay in the indicator stalk system????
He is also advising I don't mention it to the warranty company for a week????
Please help - the steering feels great now though! - but it seems to be trading one fault for many others!
Hope to hear from someone soon!
Many thanks, Alex
