So what would you do?
This is my dilemma; I have a 2000 (W) 156 1.8TS Sportwagon that needs a Cambelt & ARB. It's done 97k and has full service history (but is on original clutch still). I've had a very good quote from an Alfa Specialist for the Cambelt, Waterpump & ARB at £530.
Thing is; for sale only 8 miles from me is a 52 plate 156 Sportwagon 2.4jtd with full history and new Cambelt and clutch - for sale at £995. Downside is that it's done 117k which is 20k more than mine (but it is a diesel).
I must admit to having a soft spot for diesels, although my mileage doesn't dictate that I need one.
What I'm thinking is that if I sold my 1.8 as it is for a few hundred, by putting little more than the cost of the work mine needs to that, I could pretty much buy the diesel. Mine is MOT'd til December whereas the diesel is only MOT'd til July.
Interested to hear opinions (and reasons) - am I better off with 'the devil I know' or swapping it out for a newer but higher mileage diesel?
